Role: Lead Developer

Tech Stack: WordPress, PHP (OOP), Advanced Custom Fields (ACF Pro), JavaScript (Fetch / REST API), CSS3 / Sass

Overview

A dynamic platform built for real-time sports tournament management and tracking, engineered to centralize live score publishing and participant documentation distribution.

The Challenge

The client required an agile system capable of reflecting instant match scores and tournament standings during live events. The core priority was eliminating operational dependencies on technical staff for real-time score updates, bracket modifications, and documentation management.

The Solution

As the Lead Developer, I architected a modular content structure using custom post types and custom fields, transforming the WordPress admin dashboard into an intuitive, error-proof editorial environment. For live scores and standings, I implemented a lightweight, decoupled data-fetching workflow via custom REST API endpoints, enabling instant client-side updates without triggering full page reloads or overloading server resources during high-traffic matches.

Key Highlights

  • Real-Time Score & Standings Tracking: Instant updates to scoreboards and tournament tables with zero page refreshes.
  • Autonomous Editorial Workflow: Structured input validation that prevents human error and removes developer overhead during live matches.
  • Centralized Document Hub: Secure, organized repository for tournament rules, registration forms, and guidelines.
  • High-Concurrency Performance: Optimized queries and data payload caching built to withstand traffic surges on competition days.
